We started the Hand of Brothers Creative Studio out of passion and necessity.
Passion ...because of our love of creating imaginative art, illustration and animation.
Necessity… because we wanted to provide a stylistic alternative to other creative studios. Also, it allowed Richard the working flexibility to care for his son who was diagnosed with Cancer at the age four.
Mark is the artist/ illustrator half and has been drawing, sketching and painting since long before his art training ...many moons ago.
Richard is the animator and takes care of all things motion based at the studio. He is the youngest…but looks older due to circumstances.
Welcome to Hand of Brothers.
We are Mark and Richard, two creative northern brothers based in Manchester and Preston.
Our family owes so much for the treatment, help and support we received during the three and half years of cancer treatment that Richard’s young son needed.
We constantly try and raise money and awareness for Childrens Cancer Charities and especially Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital and Macmillan Cancer support, who we are indebted to the most. Please support these causes and follow them and us on social media to keep informed.
HOW WE STARTED
April 2010 - Created our first animation to accompany Richard's own music.
June 2011 - First commission for an animation. The band ‘Blind Atlas’ needed a video for their song “My Proud Mountains". The video becomes BBC 6 radio ‘ video of the week' and helps garner attention for the band including an interview and live appearance with Whispering Bob Harris. More music video animations and recognition follow.
August 2014 - The Hand of Brothers business partnership is formally created. We start taking commissions for animated explainers and illustrations.
January 2016 - Richard begins working full time for the business. This allows him to care for his poorly son whilst trying to earn a living.
